Alright, let's be real. You live in a part of the Netherlands where the likelihood of getting involved in picking, growing, flowers, vegetables, greenhouses, or fruit (especially as a side job) is high. What you really want to know is: how much do I earn per hour? Can I work with my friends too? How early do I have to get out of bed, and is it also 'kind of fun' there? Are we getting close?

Earning extra money from the age of 13
All fun and games, but the most important thing is, of course, how much you'll be making at The Valley. Salary from July 1, 2024.

Especially for parents
A side job is your child's first job. Often, this can be quite exciting. Where will your child be working? How will we interact with each other, and what will we be doing? Your child will work in a friendly environment on their first side job, alongside a team of 10-30 students, depending on the season. Each location has a team leader who enjoys working with and training young people. On average, 2 new people start each day (receiving all the necessary information and explanations) so they can quickly integrate into the rest of the team. Through an employee app, which the team leader explains at the beginning, you can see everything: the working hours available and completed, bonuses, teambuilding events, and the latest news. If you ever have a question (the frequently asked questions are also provided below), you can always ask the team leader.

Apply through our website and we will get in touch with you! You will then be in contact with your future team leader at the location where you want to work. Subsequently, you will have an interview, participate in a trial morning, and then you can start working!

That is up to you! In the summer, it's often busier because there is a lot of harvesting, so you can work many hours. In the winter, it's quieter, so we work fewer hours. You can work mornings or full days, it's up to you. Through the employee app, you can indicate in advance when you will be working. The working hours vary per period and even per location, this is related to the cultivation schedule. In the summer period, we start at 07:00, towards winter this becomes 08:00, and in the in-between seasons 7:30. Mornings in the greenhouse are still cool. On very hot days we can start extra early (so you can leave for the beach ;)

Of course you can. Just send a request via the App beforehand. Two days in advance is enough.

You're off to a good start with the attendance bonus. This amounts to £0.50 per hour (provided you meet certain conditions, such as timely notification of your work schedule). We also offer a performance bonus (based on the speed of leaf or product picking). And finally, the exam candidate bonus! If you've taken your final exams and work a minimum of 28 hours per week, you'll receive an additional £1 per hour for that entire week. You can check in the employee app to see which bonuses specifically apply to you.

Through the employee app, you can indicate yourself if you're present or not. This needs to be done two days in advance. During holidays, we'd like to know as soon as possible since many people want to work then, so it's a bit of a battle for a spot. 😉
Therefore, the rule is: for the summer holiday, indicate at least a month in advance!

That depends on the season. During the summer period, we start at 07:00, which changes to 08:00 towards winter, and at 7:30 during the in-between seasons.
Mornings can be cool in the greenhouse, so on very hot days, we might start earlier so you can head to the beach sooner! The start times are always indicated in the
employee app.

All employees receive their pay stubs and information on how and when everyone gets paid through another app, Numbers. You will receive an explanation via email from our administrative department when you start. If you have any questions about
this, you can also ask them or your team leader.
